National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo

National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo

The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization is located in the ancient area of Fustat, which was abandoned a good 7 years ago, as if it were a "trash" area. After cleaning and tidying up the area, installing a park, modern lights and a museum, the situation changed drastically and real estate prices in the nearby buildings jumped up to 10 times.

The museum partially opened in 2021. in April We think you remember very well when a few years ago, in 2021 22 mummies of kings and queens were transported from the National Museum of Egypt during the "Golden Parade".

And which are currently stored in the basement of the Museum of Civilization, in pedestals installed under glass, under special ventilation conditions and stored at a certain temperature.

The Museum of Civilizations, also sometimes called the Museum of Culture, exhibits a collection of 50,000 artifacts, presenting Egyptian civilization from prehistoric times to the present day.

NMEC is the first museum in the Arab world to focus on the earliest civilization in history, that of ancient Egypt.

This museum is the only one in Egypt that offers the visitor an overview of all the different historical periods that encompass Egypt. In addition, NMEC is an important cultural, educational, recreational and research center for local and international visitors and researchers.

The NMEC exhibits several objects designed to introduce the visitor to Egyptian civilization at various major historical stages, starting with the Predynastic and Ancient Egyptian periods and continuing through Greco-Roman, Coptic, Islamic and modern times.

Modern, interactive, and although the main exposition consists of one hall, the exhibited exhibits attract the eye, because many of them have built-in tablets under the glass that show the former object, phenomenon, action, so it is easy to imagine how it was many years ago.

Agricultural implements, the first big toe prosthesis, without which a person would not be able to keep his balance and walk, surgical instruments, a stage of childbirth or a water meter - a clock. A war chariot, on which the faces of enemies and scenes of war are vividly depicted. Fine mimicry of the Greek man. Silver money and jewelry made of the highest quality gold. The Coptic period and the origins of Christianity and St. Mary's ~3-year life and holy path. Wooden curtains called "Mashrabya" are like blinds, when nothing can be seen from the outside, and those inside could observe the street life, the surrounding people and remain invisible. The acquaintance continues with the origins of Islam and the history up to the present time.

Finally, going down to the basement, where the ceremonially transported mummies of rulers, kings and queens are exhibited. The process of mummification was long, taking about 70 days, at the beginning by carefully removing the human brain and some organs by placing them in special (econob) containers, drying the heart and returning it to the body, filling the empty cavities with salt bags that extracted the moisture. And after smearing the body of the deceased with a specially prepared chemical solution, the composition of which unfortunately has not been recorded to this day, it was perfectly preserved. Even the queens' hair remains, one of the braided braids or curls. Under the glass, the mummies are displayed, as if raised on a pedestal, stored in a carefully ventilated and special temperature. Neither filming nor photography is prohibited in these halls, the guide-Egyptologist cannot lead a tour in order not to disturb the peace and maintain special storage conditions, except when I accompany individual groups, I can tell a little bit very quietly, and each visitor takes away his own experiences. Which are really very impressive and priceless.
