Cairo

Cairo, the capital of Egypt, is a vibrant metropolis with a rich history and a mix of modern and ancient attractions.

Just outside Cairo, on the Giza Plateau, stand the famous Giza Pyramids: the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure. The Sphinx is also nearby. The Egyptian Museum, located in Tahrir Square, houses a treasure trove of ancient exhibits, including the golden mask of Tutankhamun and many other relics from the time of the pharaohs. This city is famous for its historic mosques, madrassas and Islamic architecture. Chan El Chalili Market is a bustling marketplace offering a variety of goods and souvenirs. There are several historic Christian sites here, including the Hanging Church (Coptic Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary) and the Coptic Museum. The Nile River flows through Cairo, and a felucca ride or dinner cruise on the river offers a unique view of the city. The city has a bustling modern side with modern districts, shopping centers and active cultural activities.
